Fr Ken


Fr. Kenneth L. Sales is our Pastor.  He joined Holy Spirit parish on July 1, 2017. I was ordained in 2004 for the Diocese of Oakland by Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron of Detroit, Michigan, who then was our bishop.  I served as Parochial Vicar to three multi-cultural parishes namely:  St. Joachim Church in Hayward (2004-2006); Immaculate Heart of Mary in Brentwood (2006-2009); St. Clement in Hayward (2009-2011); and, St. Anthony in Oakley (2011-2017).  Currently, I also serve as a member of the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Oakland.  I am humbled by the appointment as Pastor of Holy Spirit Church here in Fremont. With great anticipation and excitement I look forward to reimagining, partnering, and co-creating with Fr. Matthew, Fr. Lee, the Deacons and the entire Parish Staff and School Family.  It is indeed a great blessing to be part of an amazing parish.


Fr. Lee


Father Lee Chompoochan is our Parochial Vicar.  He joined St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park in 2003 and was ordained to the preisthood on May 20, 2006.  He served with Fr. Larry Young at St. Patrick parish in Pinole before moving to CCOP in Pleasanton.  Fr. Lee, whose baptism name is Raphael, serves not only God's people in the Oakland Diocese, but also the Thai Catholics here in California:  from LA to Sacramento.

Fr. Matthew Murray joined Holy Spirit July 1, 2017. Fr. Matthew Murray is a parochial vicar at Holy Spirit. He is the eldest of eleven children and was raised in Antioch, CA. He studied for two years at the University of Dallas before hearing the Lord's call to become a priest for the Diocese of Oakland. He completed his BA in Philosophy at St. Patrick's Seminary and University before being sent to study in Rome for three years. After studying for his STB at the Pontifical Gregorian University, he was assigned to be the Campus Minister of Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda,where he served for two years. After being ordained a priest on May 26, 2017, he was sent to his first assignment, our parish! Fr. Matthew enjoys running and hiking, but does not enjoy kale. He is deeply grateful to God to be able to serve the people of Holy Spirit parish. 


Dcn Rigo

Deacon Rigo Cabezas joined Holy Spirit Church June 2014 as our Director of Faith Formation. Dcn. Rigo graduated from Nicaragua Military Academy in July 1972 and married Reina in 1973.  They have three children and four grandchildren.  In 1980 the Cabezas' moved to Alameda County and started attending St. Joachim.  After a process of discernment, Deacon Rigo made the decision to pray the Rosary everyday and attend daily Mass;  a decision that has substantially changed his outlook on life.  His personal motto is "Say what you do, do what you say".


Dcn Chuck

Deacon Chuck Glover was ordained a Permanent Deacon on November 1, 2008 by Bishop Allen Vigneron and assigned to Holy Spirit Parish.  Chuck was raised in the small lumber town of McCloud in Northern California at the foot of Mt. Shasta.  He and his wife Sherry were married in 1967 shortly after Chuck joined the Air Force.  He graduated from San Jose State University in 1977.  Chuck and Sherry were blessed with two sons, Charlie and Ian.   In the 1990’s Chuck and Sherry returned to school where Chuck earned his MBA and Sherry earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Business.  Chuck is involved in various ministries at Holy Spirit.


Dcn Steve

Deacon Stephen Lewellyn was ordained a permanent Deacon on November 16, 2013 by Bishop Michael Barber for service to the Diocese of Oakland and assigned to Holy Spirit Parish.  Steve was born in San Francisco, and grew up in Pacifica. Steve went to Serra High school in San Mateo, and later met the love of his life, Annette at the College of San Mateo.  They were married in 1985 and they later were blessed with three great children, Nicole, Melissa, and Zachary. All three children attended Holy Spirit School.  Steve and Annette have been Holy Spirit parishioners for 25 years and have been involved in many ministries. Steve is currently employed at Airgas Corporation and Annette is employed at the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation.


Dcn Tim

Deacon Tim Roberto was ordained a Permanent Deacon on November 16, 2013 by Bishop Michael Barber and assigned to Holy Spirit Parish.  Tim was born in New Jersey, but was raised in La Mirada, a suburb of Los Angeles.  Tim’s father is a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  Tim married the love of his life, Lily, in 1998.  In 2002, Tim and Lily were blessed with their only daughter, Brianna.  Tim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource and a MBA in Strategic Management.  He works as a National Sales Manager for a family-owned Industrial Supply Company.  Lily earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s Degree in Education.  Lily works as a First Grade Teacher in New Haven Unified School District.   


Dcn Richard

Deacon Emeritus Richard Yee was ordained a Permanent Deacon on February 25, 1995 by Bishop John Cummins and assigned to Holy Spirit Parish. Richard was born in San Francisco and grew up in San Jose. After serving 4 years in the US Army, and after marrying Esther in 1961, they moved to Fremont in 1963. They have three children and five grandchildren.  Besides Esther, his passion is creating a new parish bulletin cover each week. Richard has been innovative in bringing technology to our parish by creating and launching our first website and implementing our weekly email blasts.  You may not realize it, but Richard also uses his creative genius to design many of our parish flyers and ministry books.  Esther coordinates our EM's for the sick and homebound, too.

Holly Marsh is our School Principal.  Holy Spirit holds a special place in her heart. Prior to becoming principal, she was a teacher for six years at the school. She has also sent her children here, and is an alumnae as well. In 1992 she was our Festival Queen. Holly is committed to Catholic education and the mission of the school; developing the whole child by providing a quality Catholic education in a safe and caring environment. Holly and her husband Nick have been blessed with five beautiful children, and love to spend time outdoors laughing with their family. 



Marvie Joyce Torres Became the Director of Holy Spirit Preschool October 2014.  Marvie Joyce Torres was born and raise in San Francisco.  She graduated from San Francisco State University in May 2007, receiving her B.A. in Child and Adolescent Development with an emphasis on Young Child and Family.  She became Director of Holy Spirit Preschool in October 2014 with over 10 years experience working with different ages ranging from 2-7 years old.  Marvie Joyce has been married to John since 2006 and they are blessed with 2 beautiful children, Mark Jayson and Jocelyn Marie.  John graduated from San Jose State University and earned his B.S. in Accounting.  With over 20 years experience in Accounting, he is the controller at a software company.

Joe Nufable 2016


Joseph Nufable is our Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.  He wa born in 1992 and raised in the Bay Area.  Before coming to Holy Spirit parish, Joseph earned a strong Catholic foundation from his family and attending St. Patrick Elementary in Rodeo and Salesian High School in Richmond.  In 2014 Joseph graduated from USF with a BA degree in Communication Studies. He is willing and ready to offer this skills - and his youthful, Christ-centered energy to the community



Keiru Bakke is our Safe Environment Coordinator. She holds a degree in psychology and communications. Her husband, Aaron, and two spirited children moved to the Bay Area in 2016. Soon after, the Bakke family was warmly welcomed by the amazing Holy Spirit family. Keiru is grateful for the opportunity to serve her Holy Spirit family and for the intercession of our Blessed Mother who guides each step along the way.



Ellen Holloway is our Communications Specialist. Ellen handles the bulletin, website, social media, and other parts of the parish related to communications. Ellen and her husband Kurt have been parishioners since August of 2016. Ellen also volunteers with the High School Youth Ministry program. While new to the parish, Ellen has fallen in love with Holy Spirit Church and looks forward to helping Holy Spirit Parish grow and thrive.


Jeff Van der Sluis is our Business Manager. Jeff moved to Fremont over 25 years ago and joined the parish 15 years ago. He has served as Chair of the Holy Spirit School Board and Vice Chaired the Pastoral Council before joining the staff. Both of his children graduated from Holy Spirit School. His background includes Operations Management and his hobbies are hiking, his hot rod and consumer electronics.



Amy Wilhelm is one of our Faith Formation Admin. Assistants.  Amy and her husband, Clarence, have been married for 26 years.  They moved to Fremont in 1998 and enrolled their daughters in Faith Formation.  Right away Amy started her ministry in Faith Formation teaching first graders and eventually moved to substitute teaching in all grade levels where she has served over the past 15 years.  For three years Amy spearheaded our parish involvment with Abode's "Rapid Re-Housing" program and she currently serves on our Social Service Ministry.


Vanessa Barrett is our Parish Secretary.  She and her husband, Ed, have been parishioners for over 20 years and married forever.  They have two grown children in college.  Both Ed and Vanessa are active in a variety of ministries around the parish.




Deena Benton is our Asst. Director of Faith Formation.  Deena and her husband, Byron, were married in 1978 and have three daughters and one grandson.  She has taught in the Teen Confirmation program since 1996 and is currently studying to become a Master Catechist.  The Bentons have been parishioners since 1984.

Denise Kashyap is a Faith Formation Administrator.  She received her Bachelors degrees in Business Management and Marketing from Texas A&M University.  Denise, her husband Arun and their son are active in many parish ministries including Stephen Ministry, RCIA and Altar Serving.  Their son attended Holy Spirit School and is now attending Catholic high school. Denise's background is in operations management and real estate. 



Frances Marron is one of our Faith Formation Admin. Assistants and also KidZone Director.  She and her husband, Michael, have three children and have been parishioners of Holy Spirit since 1994.  Fran has been involved in a number of ministries over the years including the MOMS group, Girl Scouts and KidZone.  



Mark Stocking, also known as Mr. Mark around campus, is our head maintenance mechanic.  Mark was baptized here at Holy Spirit in 1971.  He's third generation to Holy Spirit as his mom even graduated Holy Ghost School back in the day.  Mark has one daughter who is a college student.



Paul Orella is our Director of Sacred Music.  Paul is a lifelong parishioner having attended Holy Spirit School and receiving his sacraments of initiation here.  Paul is a trained professional musician having studied at the University of Santa Clara and Kansas City Conservatory of Music.  He has toured and performed all over North America and is proficient in all styles of music.  Paul is very proud of our music ministry team.  He’s amazed at our Holy Spirit choirs and musicians:  over 100 volunteers who tirelessly give of their time and talents.

Rosalyn Jose is our Facilities scheduler. She and her husband, Sunil, moved to Fremont in 2011 and credit the faith community here at Holy Spirit with nourishing the spiritual life of their family. While trying to figure out her calling in life, she earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology, a Masters in Human Resource Management, a degree in Pastry Arts and worked as a Chocolatier. Rosalyn has a daughter who she suspects would readily trade her for a cuddly puppy and a son who wants to be a Pro Kendama player.(Yes, that's a real thing!) She imagines a world were we are all wearing white flowly clothes, have a halo around our heads and grow a pair of wings. Until such time, you'll find her strolling around our campus or whipping up a cloud like meringue.
