The Holy Spirit Pastoral Council is a group of parishioners appointed for a three year term by our pastor. Their job is to assist with strategic development and guidance to the parish staff on direction of the parish. The council has 10-20 members including ex-officio members: HS School Principal, School Board Chair, and Finance Committee Chair. The council meets monthly.
The Pastoral Council is accountable for developing and maintaining a five year plan providing the road map to deliver on our mission statement, "Strengthened in Faith to show the love of Christ to the world". The three primary goals of the council are: 1) enable spiritual development and guidance for Holy Spirit parishioners, 2) engage in community outreach, and 3) provide guidance and management of Holy Spirit parish.

Maria Acoba has been a parishioner for 18 years. She's married with three children and is active on the Liturgy Committee as an Acolyte Coordinator
David Bernath moved to California in 1991 after being born a raised in New York. He and his wife renewed their vows at St Mary's in 2004. They have a beautiful daughter who just graduated college and a bright son entering college in a year.
Joe Fisher Joe and his wife Diana have been happily married for over 23 years, love living in Fremont and attending Mass at Holy Spirit. Joe and Diana volunteer at the Gift Shop, Diana is an EM at Mass and Joe is serving his second year on the Pastoral Council. Diana is retired from accounting and Joe hopes to retire this year. They enjoy time together, travel, reading and exercising to keep the mind and body strong.
Pete Geschke has been a member of Holy Spirit Parish since 1991, where he has been actively involved with CYO, The Knights of Columbus, and the Lector Ministry, in addition to contributing to the Festival and to the Share Christmas Program. Peter and Diane were married at Holy Spirit and their three boys attend Faith Formation.
Tom Malone is the current secretary of Parish Council. He and his wife have been parishioners at Holy Spirit for two years.
Martin Redmond (Ex-Officio) has over twenty-five years experience in financial management with diverse companies including a Fortune 100 medical device company, high-tech companies, Banking and service companies. He serves as the Finance Council Chair. When not working, Martin is the author of the ENOFYLZ Wine Blog, and enjoys family, fitness, and travel.
Francisco Nieto is President of Saint Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Spirit Church since 2012 and has been involved in the Society for many years in various parishes. Francisco and his wife, Christine, have been parishioners for ten years and enjoy their nine grandchildren. He is an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Francisco went to high school and junior college at Salesian schools in Spain and was a Salesian brother for three years.
Arlene Vargas is a Registered Nurse. She's married to Ramon Vargas, and they have three children whom attend Holy Spirit School. Arlene and her family have been parishioners for 9 years.
Amy Wilhelm is one of our Faith Formation Admin. Assistants. Amy and her husband, Clarence, have been married for 25 years. They moved to Fremont in 1998 and enrolled their daughters in Faith Formation. Right away Amy started her ministry in Faith Formation teaching first graders and eventually moved to substitute teaching in all grade levels where she has served over the past 15 years. For three years Amy spearheaded our parish involvment with Abode's "Rapid Re-Housing" program and she currently serves on our Social Service Ministry.
Brian Zamora is the Pastoral Council President. Brian's goal on the Pastoral Council is to provide leadership and participate in endeavors that answer someone else's prayers.
Marciano Palha De Sousa has been a member of the parish for a year He has helped lead the young adult group, has been a cantor for the Youth Choir and is an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister at Mass. Marciano is also active with other young, Catholic adults in the bay area like The Goretti Group and Young Adult Circle. He has leadership and music minstry experience from his university groups and enjoys volunteering.
